Newsom has largely focused his public comments toward the pandemic relief effort across the state, despite an increasingly well-funded and organized signature campaign to recall him from office. Republican critics had for weeks suggested he was ignoring the recall effort even as conservative organizers amassed more than the 1.5 million signatures required from California residents. But on Monday, Newsom aimed his criticism squarely at former President Donald Trump and other national Republicans he says are behind the concerted effort to smear him out of office....

Fewer than 50 percent of Americans say they are satisfied with the way things are going in the country in general: forty-six percent say they are satisfied, vs. 46 percent who say they are dissatisfied. More than three-quarters of Americans say the U.S. economy is in poor (30 percent) or fair shape (48 percent). Just 20 percent think the economy is in good shape. And more than half of Americans say economic conditions in the country will be the same (37 percent) or worse (15 percent) a year from now, though 45 percent think the economy will improve....

Thirty-four percent say they are about right, while just three percent think they are tougher than necessary. And while more than two-thirds of Americans support the way Bush is handling his job overall, only about half approve of the way he has responded to recent corporate scandals. A slim 51-percent majority say they favor the way Bush has responded to Enron, WorldCom, Tyco and other accounting scandals, while 32 percent disapprove and 17 percent are not sure....

About 56 percent of Americans polled-including 57 percent of who identified themselves as Catholic-believe the Pope has left the situation ambiguous by not making it clear if the Church should remove priests who sexually abuse children or young people. Only about one-quarter (26 percent) of those polled and 30 percent of Catholics polled, say the Pope did move the policy in a clear direction. While in Rome, some U.S. cardinals had initially hinted that the Pope had laid the groundwork for a new one-strike-and-you’re-out policy for priests who abuse minors....

Unfortunately, some countries do cheat. One of the principle ways that other countries unfairly undermine and attack our economy—and therefore American jobs—is by heavily subsidizing their own industries to create artificially cheaper products and services that out-compete US companies. American steel and aluminum manufacturers have been greatly harmed by China subsidizing its own metal industries and then dumping tons of artificially cheap steel and aluminum into the US market. The factories and other companies that use these products naturally buy the cheaper Chinese metals, and many American manufacturers have been shuttered as a result....

Among the names in the mix for who could take over hosting the beloved quiz show are Rainbow room’s LeVar Burton and Jeopardy! champion Ken Jennings. Jennings is the current favorite among bookmakers at evens. As the highest-earning game show contestant of all time, Sports Betting predicts Jennings will be next to stand behind the famous podium. This news should come as no surprise to those who have followed the game closely, which has supposedly been targeted for a 2014 release window for next-generation platforms. Along with with the next Mass Effect game and Battlefield 4, the next-gen Dragon Age will utilize the brand new Frostbite 3 engine, which would make it a great tool to demonstrate the graphical prowess of both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One....

Some of the reports of Nintendo making a 4K-capable Switch have come from trust-worthy sources at Bloomberg, with its most recent report claiming that Nintendo has been asking developers to make their games 4K-ready. It sounds like Nintendo may be planning on releasing a more powerful Switch so as to not be completely left in the graphical dust that the impending PS5 and Xbox Series S & X could leave it in....

The young Irish actor has had a stellar 2022, with a surprise appearance in the DC Comics movie, followed up by an eye-catching turn in Martin McDonagh’s new movie The Banshees of Inisherin as the simple Dominic Kearney. Before that, the actor had also made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in 2021 alongside the likes of Angelina Jolie and Richard Madden as Druig in Eternals. Newsweek spoke to Keoghan about his big year, Banshees, and his future as the Joker....

It is now speculated that the next Xbox console that is in development by the hardware team that Spencer mentioned at E3 has the codename “Scarlet”. Other details regarding the console remain completely elusive though, as there is no indication by Microsoft of the release time frame for codename Scarlet, nor any details about specs, size, and whether it will truly be a next-generation Xbox console. We can speculate though that, seeing as streaming is a big focus for Microsoft, the company’s mixed reality headsets might be a factor that will be taken into consideration....

Currently, Nexus Mods is implementing a new feature dubbed “collections.” Collections effectively allow curators to compile lists of compatible mods, the idea being that it will make modding more approachable. Mod compatibility can be a pain to sort out for those that are new to the hobby, so this change, in particular, is a welcome one. But it wasn’t alone. Then at Barcelona, Neymar was subsequently ruled out of the remainder of the tournament, and missed Brazil’s 7-1 loss to Germany in the semi-finals as a result. Neymar had no idea of the severity of his injury initially, insisting that he wished to continue, and says that it was Real Madrid left-back Marcelo who initially noticed how serious the winger’s injury was....

Neymar to win the Ballon d’Or 2018 - 9/2 The attacker himself said at a press conference that he was fit and ready to take to the pitch immediately, but will be forced to wait before he can make his competitive debut. A Ligue 1 official confirmed on Saturday the late lodging of Neymar’s international transfer certificate (CIT), meaning the world’s most expensive player will be forced to watch from the stands as his new club get their league season underway....

By hiring Matt LaFleur, the Packers hoped that the Rodgers of the past would return. At one point, he was the best quarterback in the game, but he had seemingly regressed in recent years. Clearly, 2020 was destined to be a pivotal season for both Rodgers and the Packers. Plus it was unclear whether the Green Bay Packers were still fully invested in their star QB after trading up to draft his successor in Jordan Love....

The Kansas City Chiefs picked up where they had left off in Super Bowl LIV, defeating the Houston Texans 34-20 in the season opener on Thursday night as Patrick Mahomes set a new NFL record by becoming the first quarterback to pass for at least three touchdowns and no interceptions in three consecutive season openers. If the reigning Super Bowl champions got off to a flying start, the same cannot be said for Super Bowl LIV runners-up as the San Francisco 49ers lost 24-20 at home against the Arizona Cardinals, who lived up to the tag of potential dark horses in the NFC West with star wideout DeAndre Hopkins recording a career-high 14 catches and 151 receiving yards in his debut for the Cardinals....

The Miami Herald was first to report the team will give up a 2015 home date to host the AFC East rival Jets. The Dolphins played in Wembley Stadium as “visitors” earlier this season. In that Week 4 game, they routed the Raiders 38-14 on Sept. 28. The NFL announced the rest of International Series dates on Thursday. The Dolphins play the Jets on next Oct. 4, also in Week 4....

Three games were played at Wembley this season as construction of Tottenham’s new stadium fell behind schedule, but the league will revert to the four-game schedule of 2017 in London next year. There will be two games at Wembley and a further pair of fixtures at Tottenham’s ground, bringing the total number of London clashes to 28 since 2007. Tracey Crouch, the UK minister for sport, said: “The NFL in London is going from strength to strength and I am delighted that we will have four games in the capital next year, with Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium joining Wembley as a host venue....

That was the major takeaway from the wild-card round. The Cardinals had major injuries at quarterback and tailback, which limited their offensive output. Their defense, while brave and fearless, could not carry the day against the Panthers. When the special teams gave out, too, it was over for Arizona, which lost 27-16. Similarly, the Bengals needed their defense to step up at Indianapolis. That didn’t happen, and the Colts pushed to a relatively easy 26-10 win over Cincinnati....
